Micronized rubber powder is crumb rubber taken several stages further: milled down until the particle size is measured in microns rather than millimetres, then classified on fine sieves to hold a tight distribution. AP Rubber Group produces it from truck and bus radial tread, which carries a higher natural rubber fraction than passenger car casings.
The four grades are named for their particle size in microns — AP MicroRub 180, 150, 125 and 105. Each is specified on two sieves rather than one, so the distribution is bounded at both ends instead of only at the top. Specific gravity is 1.13 to 1.15, rubber hydrocarbon a minimum of 45%, and moisture no more than 1.5%.
At this fineness the powder disperses into a host compound rather than sitting in it as discrete granules, which is why it is used as a partial replacement for virgin polymer in tyre compounds, conveyor belting, moulded goods and sealants. Finer grades carry a higher ash specification, and the trade-off between fineness and ash is the usual basis for grade selection.

The coarsest micronized grade and the lowest ash specification of the four. The usual starting point where a compounder wants powder behaviour without paying for extreme fineness.
A general-purpose fine grade for rubber compounding, belting and moulded goods, where dispersion matters but the surface finish is not the limiting requirement.
A high-precision grade for compounds where the powder must disappear into the matrix — sealants, coatings and parts with a tight surface tolerance.
The finest grade produced, at 105 micron. Specified for the most demanding dispersion requirements, and carrying the highest ash specification as a consequence of the additional milling.

Micronized rubber powder is recycled tyre rubber milled to a particle size measured in microns and classified on fine sieves. It is fine enough to disperse into a host compound rather than remaining as discrete granules.
Four grades: AP MicroRub 180, 150, 125 and 105. The number is the particle size in microns, not the mesh count — AP MicroRub 180, for example, is specified at 85% minimum passing an 80 mesh (180 micron) sieve.
A micron size. The corresponding sieves are 80 mesh for the 180 grade, 100 mesh for 150, 120 mesh for 125 and 140 mesh for 105. Both figures appear on each data sheet.
Truck and bus radial (TBR) tread. TBR carries a higher natural rubber composition than passenger car radial tyres, which is what makes a higher-quality powder.
Additional milling raises the proportion of non-rubber residue in the finished powder. Ash is specified at 12% maximum for the 180 grade, rising to 16% maximum at 105 micron. Selecting a grade is usually a trade-off between fineness and ash.
